Dearly beloved in Christ,

As we celebrate yet again another feast of Christ rising from the death, let us remember that this great feast is all about the victory and triumph of love over hate, evil and death. It is a feast that calls us to reflect on how much the Father loves us by giving up his Son for us.

The paschal mystery of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection that we celebrate will take 50 days for us to express, embrace, and embody in our Christian life. God gives us so many ways to celebrate our Easter joy during these 50 days of our Easter season. The various signs and symbols in our liturgical celebrations this season point us to the Risen Lord and in Him the promise of life over death, hope over despair and light over darkness.

At the Easter Vigil, we celebrated the light of Christ which we carry, filled with hope, into a world of darkness and uncertainty. In the mist of the many crises around the world and our society, the invocation of hope may seem premature. But as St. Augustine would say “It is in hope, therefore, that a man lives, as the ‘son of the resurrection’; it is in hope that the City of God lives, during its pilgrimage on earth, that City which is brought into being by faith in Christ’s resurrection...”

Easter is meant to leave us with a very different sense of the present and the future. It offers a reality that is full of joy. Easter proclaims that fear, terror, and death are not the end of the story. When life let us down or when old struggles are succeeded by new ones, we may find it challenging to trust in the victory of God. This is the reality for many people, even those who have unremittingly devoted themselves to the love of God and neighbor. The loss of hope for some can even lead to a sense of bitterness or a feeling of God's betrayal.

There is nothing natural about the Resurrection. It is an event in which time and nature are themselves turned upside down and inside out. Only as an act of God is the Resurrection possible; and like all acts of God, it is a wakeup call to us, that God who raises the dead is more real, more powerful than any crisis or setback we can ever encounter.

For all of us standing at the empty tomb, whatever the circumstances may be, there is unfathomable hope. There is hope for those battling different crisis in our society; hope for governments and leaders; hope for the Church in this time of purification and renewal, hope for us striving to lead a holy life.

This Easter, with our hearts lit by the unquenchable fire of God's love, we are asked to entrust ourselves to Christ's care as we hope in the divine power that "dispels wickedness, washes faults away, restores innocence to the fallen, and joy to mourners, drives out hatred, fosters concord, and brings down the mighty."

As we move into the Easter season, On behalf of Fr. Martin, Sr. Eva, the office staff and myself, I pray that God will give us the grace to believe and give witness to others of the Good News: Jesus Christ is Risen, alleluia! I pray that your Easter days will be filled with the precious joy, hope and love that we can only find in the Risen Christ.

MENSAJE DE PASCUA

Amados en Cristo, mientras celebramos una vez más otra fiesta de Cristo resucitando de entre los muertos, recordemos que esta gran fiesta tiene que ver con la victoria y el triunfo del amor sobre el odio, el mal y la muerte. Es una fiesta que nos llama a reflexionar sobre cuánto nos ama el Padre al entregar a su Hijo por nosotros.

El misterio pascual de la vida, muerte y resurrección de Cristo que celebramos tardará 50 días en expresarse, abrazarse y encarnarse en nuestra vida cristiana. Dios nos da muchas maneras de celebrar nuestra alegría pascual durante estos 50 días de nuestra temporada de Pascua. Los diversos signos y símbolos de nuestras celebraciones litúrgicas de este tiempo nos señalan al Señor resucitado y en Él la promesa de la vida sobre la muerte, de la esperanza sobre la desesperación y de la luz sobre las tinieblas.

En la Vigilia Pascual, celebramos la luz de Cristo que llevamos, llenos de esperanza, a un mundo de oscuridad e incertidumbre. En medio de las muchas crisis que se producen en el mundo y en nuestra sociedad, la invocación de la esperanza puede parecer prematura. Pero como diría San Agustín: "Es en la esperanza, por lo tanto, que un hombre vive, como el 'hijo de la resurrección'; es en la esperanza que la Ciudad de Dios vive, durante su peregrinación en la tierra, esa Ciudad que es creada por la fe en la resurrección de Cristo..."

La Pascua está destinada a dejarnos con un sentido muy diferente del presente y del futuro. Ofrece una realidad llena de alegría. La Pascua proclama que el miedo, el terror y la muerte no son el final de la historia. Cuando la vida nos decepciona o cuando las viejas luchas son sucedidas por otras nuevas, puede que nos resulte difícil confiar en la victoria de Dios. Esta es la realidad de muchas personas, incluso de aquellas que se han dedicado incansablemente al amor de Dios y del prójimo. La pérdida de esperanza para algunos puede incluso llevar a una sensación de amargura o a un sentimiento de traición de Dios.

No hay nada natural en la Resurrección. Es un evento en el que el tiempo y la naturaleza se ponen patas arriba y al revés. Sólo como un acto de Dios es posible la Resurrección; y como todos los actos de Dios, es una llamada de atención para nosotros, que Dios que resucita a los muertos es más real, más poderoso que cualquier crisis o contratiempo que podamos encontrar.

Para todos los que estamos de pie junto a la tumba vacía, cualesquiera que sean las circunstancias, hay una esperanza insondable. Hay esperanza para aquellos que luchan contra diferentes crisis en nuestra sociedad; esperanza para los gobiernos y los líderes; esperanza para la Iglesia en este tiempo de purificación y renovación, esperanza para nosotros que nos esforzamos por llevar una vida santa.

En esta Pascua, con nuestros corazones iluminados por el fuego inextinguible del amor de Dios, se nos pide que nos confiemos al cuidado de Cristo mientras esperamos en el poder divino que "disipa la maldad, lava las faltas, devuelve la inocencia a los caídos y la alegría a los dolientes, expulsa el odio, fomenta la concordia y derriba a los poderosos".

A medida que nos acercamos a la temporada de Pascua, en nombre del P. Martin, la Hermana Eva, el personal de la oficina y yo, rezo para que Dios nos dé la gracia de creer y dar testimonio a los demás de la Buena Noticia: ¡Jesucristo ha resucitado, aleluya! Rezo para que vuestros días de Pascua estén llenos de la preciosa alegría, esperanza y amor que solo podemos encontrar en Cristo resucitado.
